The Patrick Kennedy "Magic" Hickory Club Straightening Tool
9This is a unique tool for straightening those pesky shafts that don't seem to want to be straight. The Tool was invented by the Living Legend, Patrick Kennedy (center figure of photo on the left) of Shelburne, Vermont. Patrick has been playing golf and making golf clubs almost his whole life. As a caddy, he was once given "those old wooden golf clubs" that were being cleared out of the Clubhouse. Patrick fell in love with Hickory play and is one of the best "Super Senior" hickory golfers in Vermont. He has always been one of the best players regardless of what age he has been through out his life. This tool works miracles on twisted and curving shafts. Once you place the shaft of your club in the series of movable cams and then apply heat from a heat gun, the shaft finds a new life as a straight shaft. Once the shaft has cooled down and settled for about 5 minutes you can remove it and your old crooked shaft has a new life. The Tool is made from select pine and is painted white. The cams are made from Douglas Fir and are stained and finished with Tru-Oil. It is the simplest and best way we have found to correct those errant shafts that have lost their way. The tool is hand made here in Vermont from Vermont lumber and crafted by Vermont craftsmen. It comes fully assembled with a tool for moving the cams into their correct position. You will need to supply your own heat gun (1500 watt). Use of an infrared reader is also recommended to make sure you are getting the shaft hot enough to make the change permanent. Lowes and Home Depot have heat guns and infrared readers for about $35 each. Full instructions are included. Price: $139

Hickory Shaft Extension Tool by Patrick Kennedy
The Hickory Shaft Extension Tool has a Steel Collar that fits over the end of a Hickory shaft and allows you to drill a 3/8 inch hole in the center of your existing shaft. The 3/8 inch drill is included with the Tool as well as two shaft extensions. More shaft extensions are easily made by using the tool to drill out 3/4 inch hickory stock to any length that you desire. You can also use maple or oak 3/4 inch dowels as well. By drilling out a blank 3/4 inch dowel to a depth of 1 1/2 inches, you can place a 3/8 inch stock dowel ( again, use a maple or oak dowel from your hardware store) in the drilled out blank and allow the dowel to extend out 1 1/2 inches from the 3/4 inch hickory, maple or oak dowel blank. More shaft extensions can be purchased for $5 each ( see below). You will need to wrap your existing shaft with a few layers of masking tape in order to assure a tight fit into the extension tool. A bench vise is ideal to hold the shaft while drilling and a 3/8" electric drill will be necessary to hold the drill bit for drilling. Full instructions written by Patrick are included for the step by step process of extending your shaft. It is preferable to use epoxy when attaching your shaft extension to your existing shaft. If you are wondering why anyone would do this, it is not uncommon to find hickory shafts that were cut down for children or women to be able to play with them. But if you have found a club you really like and want to put into play, the extension tool is the best way to get the club to the length you require for your height. Full instructions are included with the kit.
