Hickory Golf Club Grips
Our favorite way to mount grips is with the suede or rough side out. Traditional grips had the smooth side out. It may be that the suede side was not as soft and as easy to grip back in the 1920's as it is today.
Today's grips are usually made out of Cowhide , Buffalo hide and now even Elk hide. For cowhide, we like the deer-tanned version. They were good enough to win 6 Open Championships. They have a soft, velvety feel on the suede side. Even when it rains and your hands and the grips become wet, these grips will not slip. Grips are cut to a taper of 1 1/4 inch down to 1 inch. The wider part of the grip should be installed at the top of the grip. They are approximately 34-36 inches long. This will give you a grip of up to 14 inches long and still have a little left over. Check out our new offering of Black Elk hide below and some of the new colors we have!
Distinguish your clubs and make them uniquely yours with one of our extensive line of colored linen threads!
We strive to maintain color consistency in the hides we purchase. However, hides can vary in color during the tanning process from hide to hide. Every hide accepts tanning a little differently. It is always our goal to send you the best quality grips we can find.
Thread Colors are listed below in their respective groups

Buckskin Buffalo
These grips look a lot like natural Lambskin which was the original grip color for Hickory Golf Clubs that were made before 1900. Buffalo is soft and very durable so if you want a grip that is a natural color and very long lasting this is the grip for you.

Saddle Tan Cowhide Grips
This is a "very" smooth "Tan" cowhide grip much like the Black Deer Tanned Grip but for some reason, it just seems softer and smoother. Before, the Buffalo grips have been my favorite but this grip is equally smooth and soft like the Buffalo grips but just a little thinner. Like the Black Deer Tanned Grip above, it is .080 inches thick. In ounces, this is called a 3-4 ounce thickness. This grip reminds me of the buckskin that "Tonto" used to wear with "Kemo Sabe" on the Lone Ranger Movies and TV shows. My fellow hickory player and maker of the Club Stands we sell, Bob Titterton, prefers this color and uses it for most of his re-grippings. I like the work that Bob does so I could not resist getting this leather to add to our grip offerings. I hope you enjoy it, give it a try, and tell me what you think.

Light Tobacco Cowhide This is a new grip in cowhide that is thicker than the Tobacco Cowhide shown above. This comes from a leather called Granada and it is .080 inches in thickness. This grip is about the same thickness as our Buffalo Grips so it is a good alternative to the Tobacco Buffalo. It is very uniform on both sides, suede and Smooth side. We think this grip may become a favorite for using the suede side out because it is thicker than most of our cowhides. It is a shade lighter than the tobacco cowhide above.

Chocolate Brown Elk Grip
This is another new color for us in the Elk Grips. It is a beautiful Chocolate Brown color. The upper part of this picture is not accurate in color. The color is very dark brown. Like our other Elk grips is is very soft and smooth to the touch. It goes well with the Emerald Green thread, Butterscotch Gold thread and the Maroon thread as well as black for the traditionalist. The suede side is very soft and the top grain side is very uniform. The top grain side in this picture looks too light because it has some shine and it is reflecting my room lights. The true color is more like the nap side on the bottom of the picture. The thickness is good, about the same as buffalo. Tip: Elk grips are more flexible than buffalo so when mounting you want to be careful and not pull them too tightly. They will deform and loose their shape if they are pulled too tight. Their softness and good feel make up for this easily. Temporarily Out of Stock!

Saddle Tan Elk Grip This is a new color for us in the Elk Grips. Remember the elk grips are very soft and more pliable than buffalo or cowhide. When installing them you have to be careful to not stretch the grip to much or it will soon get out of shape. But once installed correctly, the softness, feel, and touch are special with Elk.
